Seventeen-year-old Gwynn Hader is still haunted by a traumatic event from two years ago, struggling with insomnia and the remnants of her past. As she faces her senior year, Gwynn’s anxiety intensifies, compounded by her mother’s demanding schedule and her own inability to escape her mental struggles.
When a film festival offering a scholarship catches her attention, Gwynn seizes the opportunity to turn an old middle school story into a film, with the help of her best friend, Kayla. As Gwynn immerses herself in the project, she meets JT, a mysterious boy who shares her passion for music and film. As the two collaborate behind the scenes, their connection deepens in unexpected ways.
But with mounting pressure and unforeseen obstacles delaying production, Gwynn’s grip on reality begins to weaken. The countdown is on – can she finish the film, or will her inner demons stop her from finishing what she started?
Working title: A Lesson in Aromantics
YA Contemporary Fiction
Seventeen-year-old Derek, a student at a conservative high school, loves writing for the school newspaper, using it as a way to observe and reflect on the world around him. When he’s assigned to profile a local emo band, he forms an unexpected connection with the band’s drummer, Gaby Rae, who introduces him to the world of aromantic and asexual identities. As Derek navigates his growing friendship with Gaby Rae, he begins to question his own understanding of attraction and relationships. But when a controversial article Derek writes on asexuality leads to unexpected consequences, he must decide how far he’s willing to go for what he believes in—while balancing the pressure of family, friends, and his evolving identity.
